Biohacker Summit 2015 was all about how to become better, faster, stronger by upgrading different areas of our lives. When it came to the Upgraded Party (official afterparty of Biohacker Summit), we asked ourselves: how do we bring the party experience to the next level?
We wanted to challenge the stereotype that every party should revolve around alcohol (typically followed by brain fog the next day — if not a full-blown hangover). Therefore we opted out from including alcohol on our upgraded menu. But that didn’t mean our guests must be limited to juices and bottled water, although these are good choices to keep on-hand.
Many of our attendees and subscribers inquired about our Afterparty bar menu — so let’s have a closer look at what went inside our two ultimate cocktails.
Green drinks are often associated with health, but not so often associated with delicious taste. We changed that, when we created the refreshing green T-2015 Biofuel cocktail. It is good for you, it tastes amazing and it has a relaxing effect on the body and mind after a long conference day.
First we add coconut water, the great re-hydrator. It contains the electrolytes calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium and potassium.
In addition we throw in lemon juice that is full of vitamin C and the powerful anti-inflammatory flavor enhancer ginger.
For the nutrient content we used Supergreen powder by Puhdistamo*, compressed with 30 high-quality ingredients and 7 green superfoods like spinach and hemp, as well as plant-based proteins, coconut-derived fatty acids and fiber. We also add some stinging nettle extract that is high in iron, potassium, calcium and cilica, not to mention vitamin A.
With a teaspoon of top quality coconut palm sugar we were able to balance the acidity and make the drink taste even better.
The secret ingredient of this cocktail was Ashwagandha powder, a powerful medicinal plant that helps people to cope with stress. A recent study has shown that ashwagandha has a nootropic effect resulting in remedial potential for aging and neurodegenerative pathologies, protection against environmental neurotoxins and enhancement of memory.
T-2015 Biofuel Recipe:
- 9 cl Coconut water
- 1 cl Lemon juice
- 1 cl Ginger juice or 1 big piece of fresh ginger
- ½ tbls Palmtree sugar (Puhdistamo)
- ½ tbls Supergreen powder (Puhdistamo)
- ¼ tsp Ashwagandha powder (Puhdistamo)
- 5 drops Nettle extract (Puhdistamo tincture)
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the mix over. Garnish the drink with some fresh cucumber slice & fresh ginger slice on top, and serve with a straw.
After the hard day’s stress was washed away, we introduced our ultimate energy-balancing drink: Hackberry Jack.
The main palate consists of Finnish berries — lingonberries and bilberries, traditional local super foods that the Finnish forest is full of in summer and early autumn. Bioflavonoids in berries are generally speaking good for recovering eyes from the day’s hard work. The most compelling evidence is bilberries anthocyanidin ability to reduce retinal inflammation. No wonder it was used during World War II to improve night vision and target accuracy of British pilots. Anthocyanidin content ranges from 300 mg to 700 mg per 100 grams of bilberries. Lingonberries on the other hand are a good source of the bioflavonoid quercetin, that has anti-inflammatory properties.
Blended with organic cranberry juice (full of proanthocyanidins that among others may prevent urinary tract infections), this delicious berry drink tasted awesome and fueled everyone with nutrients and antioxidants. To open up the berry flavor we added a bit of coconut palm sugar, a natural sweetener with lower glycemic index, and a pinch of Super C-vitamin powder, a great mood enhancer, that kept us hyped and happy all evening.
Finally, the cherry on the top of the cocktail was roseroot extract, a great natural stimulant, adaptogen, and aphrodisiac used in traditional European folk medicine for over 3,000 years. Rhodiola rosea, also referred to as roseroot, enhances the mood by stimulating the receptors of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin in the brain that are involved with mood regulation.
In order to increase the amount of vitamins and nutrients we used 2 teaspoons of Berry smoothie mix powder by Puhdistamo*. The mix contains nutrients from 5 Finnish ground berries and berry juice powders including the Tibetan goji berry.
The Hackerberry Jack cocktail is rich with vitamins A, C and E, and antioxidants such as polyphenols that keep your mind sharp and alert. Those have a great neuroprotective effect on the brain and stimulate mitochondria giving more energy to the cells.
Hackerberry Jack Recipe
- 1 tbls lingonberries (Freshly picked or frozen)
- 1 tbls bilberries (Freshly picked or frozen)
- 3 tbls Coconut palm sugar
- 2 tbls Berry smoothie mix powder (Puhdistamo)
- ⅛ tsp Super C-Vitamin extract powder (Puhdistamo)
- 15 drops Roseroot extract (Puhdistamo tincture)
- 8 cl Cranberry juice
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the mix over. Garnish the drink with some fresh lingonberries and blueberries on top, and serve with a straw.
