Olli Sovijärvi is one of the pioneers in holistic medicine in Finland and the only medical doctor with a psychologic-philosophical Integral Theory degree from John F. Kennedy University, CA. Sovijärvi graduated 2006 as a licensed physician from University of Helsinki.
Numerous appearances in the media, social media articles, as well as Finland’s first health themed podcast have created people the kind of awareness what health really means. He has worked as a private practitioner in the past five years and currently focuses on practicing his profession in a clinic, which operates in Functional Medicine. He is accompanied by other physicians, nurses, and a unique trace element laboratory.
Sovijärvi gives regularly lectures and trainings in different areas of health and is particularly focused on the natural nutrition, optimizing performance and integration of mind and body. Sovijärvi has also consulted many natural health brands and organizations.
He is also one of the authors of the upcoming Biohacker’s Handbook.
“I have previously been a workaholic and suffered from enormous stress state. Six years ago, woken up to this constant achieving and overdoing I began finally treating also myself. In practice, all things changed in my life on a physical, mental and psychological level, and the journey still continues. I apply my own experience at work, which is comprehensive human care and personalized health planning.
At present, a large proportion of my patients have problems with chronic stress state due to wide variety of reasons. I think it is always essential to find out the root cause of the disease, manage its core and restore balance of body, mind and spirit. By normalizing our own healing processes can each recover from many different diseases.”
Biohacker Summit:
How did you get yourself into biohacking?
Olli Sovijärvi:
I think I have been a biohacker since I was introduced into strength training 20 years ago. At the time nutrition was my passion and it still is. Experimenting with various diets, supplements, psychological practices and technology has been a great part on my life ever since. I have followed my dad’s work as a clinical physiologist which has given me good overview of different measuring techniques of human biology.
Teemu Arina introduced me into biohacking more ”seriously” two years ago and we have been inseparable ever since!
Biohacker Summit:
Where did the project Biohacker’s Handbook (Biohakkerin käsikirja) come from and what is your input in it?
Olli Sovijärvi:
It was Teemu’s idea to being writing a book that no-one hasn’t yet written. I have had an idea of writing a book about integral health years before that so it fit perfectly into my current worldview.
My input is to do the research and most of the writing in Mind, Nutrition and Exercise parts of the book. It has been a great journey so far and I think my learning curve on those subjects has increased dramatically.
Biohacker Summit:
How do you see biohacking affecting human wellness?
Olli Sovijärvi:
Shortly: it is the future (and also already present). With measuring our biology and psyche and using biological and technological interventions compared with big data it is possible to get better results more quickly.
Biohacker Summit:
Could you give us an example of a person who updates himself by biohacking?
Olli Sovijärvi:
Sure 🙂 The ones I have followed in the area are Tim Ferriss, Seth Roberts (RIP), Dave Asprey, Ben Greenfield, Mark Sisson and many more. Ray Kurzweil is the grand old man in terms of biohacking.
Biohacker Summit:
How do you foresee biohacking`s growth and its possibilities to have a deeper effect in health, psyche and spiritual life?
Olli Sovijärvi:
It is exponential. We have to forget dualism and all the boundaries between body, mind and spirit. These aspects of human nature are all interconnected in a complex way, but with biohacking we are able to become one, an optimal functioning unity as a living organism.
Biohacker Summit:
Give us your best hints, tools or practices for biohacking.
Olli Sovijärvi:
Read the Biohacker’s Handbook 😉
- Do less, be more
- Meditate daily, bring life into meditation
- Eat clean food that fits your personal biology
- Manage your stress, build your resilience
Biohacker Summit:
