Epigenetics With Dr. Tom Stubbs

Biohacker’s Live Show features top experts in optimal human performance as if they were in your living room. Your host is Teemu Arina, the co-author of the Biohacker’s Handbook and curator of the Biohacker Summit. Catch each episode by subscribing to our podcast on iTunes here.

Our guest today is Dr. Tom Stubbs, the co-founder and CEO of Chronomics, a personalized epigenetic testing company. Tom obtained a First-Class Honours degree in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from Magdalen College, Oxford. Tom subsequently undertook a PhD in epigenetics at the University of Cambridge, which was broadly on the development and implementation of novel wet-lab and computational methods aimed at improving the understanding of epigenetics (specifically DNA methylation).

One response to “Epigenetics With Dr. Tom Stubbs”

  1. Sol Davidson says:

I find myself becoming absorbed in the neuroscience regarding DNA methylation and the implications as spelt out below
For the last thirty years I worked ( now retired ) as an executive coach/therapist and one of my trainings was in Family Therapy and how Family of Origin Dynamics plays out in the boardroom in both Government and the Corporate world.
However most of that training has been rather overturned by recent and emerging neuroscience research showing how extended early life trauma , or Complex PTSD as its now being called , can lead to Epigenetic shutdown of the genetic capacity to produce Dopamine, Serotonin, etc ( the hormones required for inner calm, empathy , compassion etc. ) leaving only the genetic structure to produce the Fight or Flight or Freeze hormones of Adrenaline and Cortisol etc. in the adult.
I’ve had a good look at the Family of Origin Dynamics of Putin, Trump and Johnson and find that this Dopamine shutdown research correlates with and goes a long way to explaining how and why they behave the way they do.
I find it fascinating that if an aeroplane crashes, our collective response is to thoroughly investigate the wreckage to understand the cause of the crash but when a politician burns and crashes very little systematic investigation as to the underlying cause is carried out.
To me the implications of Dopamine shutdown as a result of Complex PTSD have huge policy and strategic implications and there seems to be so little awareness of this research.
Do you or your research team have any summary papers on the above phenomena as I am in need of one or two straightforward publications to communicate this research to a wider audience
I do trust this email is received in the spirit of its intent

    Many thanks and best wishes
